EIT Health i-Days 2022

[October 25-26.]

According to the saying, life is better together. We share the same values, so as the result of our fruitful collaboration with the organizers of the International Conference of Biomedical Engineering and Innovation (ICBEI) we are organizing the EIT Health iDays as part of the international conferene. Both events will provide you quality experience related to healthcare innovation and biomedical engineering solutions. i-Days promote health innovation among university students through dozens of one-day and two-day programmes held in academic institutions around Europe. Students from all academic areas receive an introduction to practical health innovation tools and compete in teams to tackle real-life health challenges posed by EIT Health, local organisations, private corporations or start-ups. The winning team of each i-Day will attend the Winners’ Event, a final competition that unites students from around Europe. If you join the event in the organization of Institute of Transdisciplinary Discoveries of Medical School Pécs, through insipiring speeches and professional lectures you will not only gain insight into the world of health innovation, but you will have a chance to try yourself as part of a team to search for solutions to biggest challenges of our life as:

More details about these challenges will be shared at the event, butiIt is important that solutions provided have to be viable and have to be in connection with healthcare services. As part of the game by the end of the day all the ideas will be presented in front of jury. Besides that the best teams will receive super prices the winning team will win the chance to represent Hungary and the University of Pécs at the international stage, called the Winner’s event

The challenges of 2022:

Nowadays it became common in certain countries and for certain medicine, that a large amount of illegaly produced medicine are sold on the internet. You can approach the this problem from several point of view, for example: how to identify legaly or illegaly produced medicine, how to identify selling points (web sites), how to track legaly produced and sold medicine, and so on. We are looking for new and innovative ideas especially in terms of technology or computer science solutions.

In this task, the team has to design a surveillance system using existing equipment that allows observation inside a building. The observation is focused on the movement of people. The motion analysis detects falls or malaise and predicts them if necessary. The task involves the necessary equipment, its placement, the required background IT, data storage, data protection methods and data processing. The devices can be cameras, smart watches, other sensors, preferably designed to be the least disruptive to daily life. The concept should also address the costs and human resources needed for operation.

Healthcare providers are one of the most exposed to cyberattacks in 2022. One of the biggest challenges when it comes to effective healthcare cybersecurity is endpoint security and management – especially concerning connected medical devices and Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) technologies. Today, there are roughly 15 to 20 connected medical devices per bed in a given hospital; monitoring every device and ensuring all are secure and up to date is a herculean task. As the "owners" of medical devices, biomedical engineers have a critical role to play in the security of these devices. In this task we are looking for administrative, technical or preventive ideas, solutions which could help to mitigate the risk or the effect of a potential cyberattack and/or protect the healthcare data processed by healthcare providers.

The aim of this task is to build confidence and make healthcare services “attractive” for those who are avoiding doctors and do not ask for medical help even when there is the need. In this task we are looking for solutions which are able to motivate the affected ones. We are looking for any kind of solution, for example like clubcards, where the patient can benefit of his/her visit at a healthcare provider in a specific form.

According to statistics, more and more elderly causing accidents, because they do not recognize their limits and they do not stop driving when they should. From their point of view it can be their last option to feel that they still live a life full of value, so this simple action can easily have side effects like depression for them. In this task we are looking for solutions about how to convince the elderly to stop driving. You can find out brand new solutions or you can offer alternatives, it is only on you which way you start.

Although accessibility is a top priority in the western countries, but at same time unfortunately often the solutions provided - if any - are not the best ones. In this task we are looking for accessibility solutions using the latest techniques which can be easily implemented by the individuals, right at the scene or at the time of need.
