My name is János Uzsaly, I was born in Pécs, I graduated from the Lajos Nagy High School of the Cistercian Order in Pécs, and I obtained my diploma in Pécs at the PTE General Medical Faculty in 2018, and since September 2018, I have been working as a doctor at the Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery Clinic in Pécs. I was attracted to otolaryngology because of the wide range of opportunities within the profession, and this diversity, just like in other areas of life, is a significant motivation for me to this day. My main field of research is sudden hearing loss, the exact cause of which is not clear, for this reason we conduct a detailed examination at our clinic regarding the disease's origin, course, risk factors and the effectiveness of our treatment.

What was the point that made you take advantage of the opportunity offered by your manager and join the Champion network organized by the Institute for Transdisciplinary Research? 

During my university years, during the founding of the Student Education Development Group, I got to know the joy of innovation, improvement, and creative work. I have always been driven by curiosity to participate in new things, I was interested in the possibility of innovation, be it a small, everyday problem solution or an almost impossible undertaking. The Champion network organized by the Institute for Transdisciplinary Research opened the door for me to this kind of work.

How much extra work and time investment did it require of you to participate in the programs and workshops, and how were you able to reconcile this with your everyday tasks?

The organizing team informed me about the dates of the workshops in a timely manner, so I could easily coordinate with my clinical duties. The workshops themselves did not mean extra work for me, rather I could describe the occasions that fill a working day as relaxation and recharge.

How did you feel during the one year you spent in the program, was there any practical benefit to the knowledge you acquired there that you can use in your everyday work?

The programs helped me break away from the limited clinical thinking and narrowed opportunities, and the appearance of multidisciplinarity on the forums developed my way of thinking and strengthened my empathy. The practice of the workshops has confirmed that the small steps taken in the right direction of joint thinking and ideation almost always lead to the final goal. The series of events taught me that even small problems must be explored in detail and explored from the point of view of all the people involved, otherwise solving the problem will not be successful in the long run.

Have you decided to continue your participation this year as well? Is there a field or topic that you would like to work on, or that could have a great impact on your immediate work environment, but has not yet come up during the training?

Due to the participants from several fields of expertise and the constructive nature of the company, almost all important topics have been brought up to a greater or lesser extent. For me, the most interesting area of innovation is organizational development and team management, as I believe that this can create a good foundation for all other developments.

Would you recommend the training to others?

I would recommend the training to anyone who wants to bring a constructive, progressive approach to their everyday life, whether this means a private or workplace environment.
